According to legend the Ngoma drum holds true power. The power to unite, or the power to pull apart a community by its beats alone.

The drum can instill fear or instill unity, depending on the intent of the wielder. According to studies the Venda Ngoma drum might actually be the Ark of the Covenant wielded in battle and destroying any enemies that lay in their path. In this year’s Drum Struck the Ngoma drum is played by the Ubuntu Queen to unite her broken community.

The show is an analogy on society’s greed and importance on material wealth. By using this drum that has such deep historical value she is able to restore the community and once again unite her people.
